Every now and then, alternative treatment forms, such as laser acupuncture are included in scientific studies. Several publications and studies have reported divergent results and this is probably due to the problem of reproducibility of the treatment. In this present study, the authors performed a prospective randomized trial between “real” laser acupuncture and “placebo-light” acupuncture in 91 otherwise unselected children with nocturnal enuresis. The acupuncture points were selected by traditional Chinese medicine for bladder diseases. The acupuncture light treatment was performed 3x per week for four weeks. The authors report a complete improvement in the treatment group of about 50% and in the placebo group of 12%. The authors claim the success of the treatment in increasing bladder capacity. I hope that these results can be reproduced in another study.
